Pakistan May Pull Out of 2025 ICC Champions Trophy Over Hosting Rights Dispute
Pakistan may consider pulling out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if its hosting rights are revoked, according to a report by “Dawn”. The report cited “official sources” who indicated that the Pakistan government may instruct the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to refrain from competing against India in any ICC or Asian Cricket Council events until bilateral issues are resolved.
Meanwhile, a report from news agency PTI noted that the PCB is seeking clarification from the ICC regarding the Champions Trophy’s hosting arrangements. While India has officially communicated its refusal to play in Pakistan, there has been no confirmation of a hybrid model similar to the one used during the Asia Cup last year, where India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka, while Pakistan hosted the rest.
According to PCB insiders, the ICC informed them of India’s decision, yet no hybrid format discussions have taken place. “The PCB plans to consult its legal team and send an official inquiry to the ICC to understand the implications,” the source said.
The PCB has reportedly been in communication with the government, seeking guidance on policy direction. There are concerns over possible legal ramifications if Pakistan’s government decides to take a firm stance regarding cricket relations with India. The PCB is waiting on policy directions that may be cited in its correspondence with the ICC to address India’s decision not to participate in Pakistan.
